About Us

The Ashden Trust was settled by Sarah Butler-Sloss. Sarah chairs the trust. There are two other trustees are Claire Birch and Grace Yu. The work of the trustees is supported by executive staff.

The trust only funds registered charities or activities with clearly defined charitable purposes. It does not make grants directly to individuals.

The Trust has for many years given priority to climate change, sustainable development and improving the quality of life of vulnerable and disadvantaged people. Currently, it considers ways to tackle these urgent challenges within five categories:

Sustainable Farming
Connecting People and Nature
People at Risk
Climate Change Collaboration and Divest Invest
Avoided Deforestation

In addition, the trust supports Ashden Sustainable Solutions Sustainable Lives.

The trustees take an active role in their grant-making, employing specialist staff and advisers to research their areas of interest and bring forward suitable proposals. They generally do not generally make grants in response to unsolicited applications. Guidance on making unsolicited applications is available on the Sainsbury Family Charitable Trusts website: http://www.sfct.org.uk/how_to_apply.html.
